SECTION-B
Q2. Attempt any FOUR questions. 5×4=20
2. Explain the principle & working of hysteresis motor.
3. Explain why distributed field winding is employed in a cylindrical rotor machine.
4. Derive emf equation for D.C. generator.
5. Explain a method used for getting a speed more than the rated speed in D.C. shunt motor.
6. Explain the principle & working of cross field generator.
SECTION-C
Q3. Attempt any TWO questions. 2×10=20
7. Draw & explain the load characteristics of D.C. shunt generator & hence show that it is self protecting in nature.
8. Why starters are used in D.C. machines? Explain the construction & working of three point starter.
9. The Hopkinson’s test on two machines gave the following results for full load : Line voltage 250V; line current excluding field current 50A; motor armature current 380A; field current 5A and 4.2A. Calculate the efficiency of each machine. Armature resistance of each machine is 0.02 Ohm. State the assumptions made.
